RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The following are a series of classes that the Geez Rite Catholic Church in Toronto offers to 13 -15 years of age kids on Saturday afternoons. They are like class notes for the teacher who develops them and enriches them with stories and applications according to the needs of the group.

My goals in drawing these notes are:

  1. To help the kids grasp the essentials of the Christian faith (love of God for us and our response to Him, love of neighbour ...)
  2. To base these essentials on the Word of God in the Bible and in the reach Christian tradition
  3. To familiarize the kids with the Bible from their early childhood. I think it is important that the students learn to find for themselves the various biblical passages and to learn them by heart together with the right biblical book, chapter, verse, etc.
  4. To involve the family in the kids' Christian journey by reading in the family the assignments and working them together.

I have agreed to put these pages on the Kidanemhret website so that others may make use of it. I realize that by so doing I am facing a lot of criticism. But that is exactly what I hope. It is an act of trust with the hope that this first seed may grow.

In our parish milieu we have coupled the classes of religion with classes of language.

I present this small beginning to the wonderful kids that show much cooperation and motivation, as well as to their parents.
